Today’s global village is helpless in the shackles of conspiracies,
mutual disputes, cold and hot wars, so called upheavals and hue and cry of
propaganda of the opponents. The fumes of fanatic racism and religious
terrorism can be observed on the horizons of the world. The state aggression
and tyranny against freedom movements is draped in the cloth of good
governance. The piles of bombs, missiles and nuclear weapons are leading my
heaven towards the hell of unending wars. This world must be the place of
peace, harmony, progress and prosperity. The trivial disputes cause arms
accumulation. If the leading nations of the world step forward for peace, the
destination of prosperity is no more far away. Why the peace of the world
is necessary? The people of this world are facing greater difficulties than are
put forth by the magical propaganda. Here, I have the audacity to expose the
facts about the most serious problem of the world called pollution. Lahore and
Karachi of Pakistan have 20 times more air pollution than the set standards of World
Health Organization. Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, is draped in the thick
layer of smog. A study in Pakistan reveals 4 percent reduction in rice yield
due to pollution. According to Key Energy Statistics 2008, coal is responsible
for 42 percent of the world carbon dioxide emission. Pakistan intended to shift
powerhouses on coal in near future. World Bank statistics show that 20 most
polluted cities of world are in China while around 400,000 people die
prematurely each year of respiratory disease and lungs cancer.
Pakistan’s rank is 80 among 122 nations in water pollutions. Around
90 Percent of cities of China are polluted. In 2007, half a billion Chinese had
no access to safe drinking water. China’s Nation Development Agency reported in
2007 that ¼ of the length of China’s seven main rivers were so poisoned that
the water was harmful for the skin. 80 percent of Indian sewage flows untreated
into Country Rivers.
World Bank reports of 2008 expose 1.29 million people were living
in absolute poverty. About 40 million in absolute poverty lived in India and
173 in China. Between 1990 and 2010, about 663 million people moved above absolute
poverty level. UNISEF estimate reveals half the world’s children lived in
poverty.
World’s conscience is giving a deaf ear to these thrilling and eye
opening statistics. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute tells United
States spending 640 billion dollars, 2.4 percent of GDP, on defense purposes
annually, China 188 billion dollars, Russia 87 billion dollars. The world’s
total defense expenditures are 1749 billion dollars per year according to the
latest research.
To eradicate absolute poverty and to remove this stigma from the
world’s beautiful face, very less money is required than the world spends as a whole
on military budget. Annual defense spending in United States is about four
times as much money as needed to begin rapid ending of extreme poverty in the
world.
Collective and sincere efforts of all
nations forgetting their mutual differences can bring about a prosperous
revolution in the world. This can be possible only if they work with the
missionary spirit. The peace and mutual understanding is necessary tool for it.
The world should have abandoned the race of weapons. The deep perception of
human sufferings and difficulties can cause its elimination. 1749 billion
dollars yearly is a huge amount but not more precious than a smile on lips of
human race. Nations must let down their benefits for the greatest cause of
human prosperity. If the equal opportunities to everyone in the world is so
hard a task, then we can at least uplift the living standard of the down trodden
and poverty stricken people. The nuclear race if
remained the top priority of the world’s politics, humanity would never be
freed from the clutches of the miseries. The children living in remote village
can never have their access to clean and safe water. The hospitals will remain
crowded with the patients of lungs and skin cancer and respiratory ailments.
The beautiful cities of the world will remain taking the thick cover of smog.
The sufferings of the human beings will remain behind the glamorous and so-called
progress and prosperity of the world.
